The fantastic Tar Heel trio of Gianluca Dalatri, Josh Hiatt and Ashton McGee were chosen to the D1Baseball.com Freshman All-American team on Thursday–marking just the latest media outlet to give them that honor.

This latest distinction makes all three players consensus Freshman All-Americans, as they each represent a bright future for head coach Mike Fox and company.

No other school had as many players selected to D1Baseball’s Freshman All-American team, with LSU being the only other team to have more than one player chosen.

Dalatri pitched most of the season as the No. 2 starting pitcher behind ACC Pitcher of the Year JB Bukauskas. The New Jersey native posted a 7-3 record and a team-high 97 innings pitched, while striking out 85 batters compared to just 19 walks.

Meanwhile, Hiatt provided a resounding answer to the bullpen issues that plagued the team in recent seasons.

The closer made appearances in a team-high 32 games and piled up 13 saves in the process. Hiatt also struck out 64 hitters in just 52 innings, as opponents hit just .168 against him for the year.

McGee enrolled in school back in January, then quickly burst onto the scene as one of the ACC’s best hitters.

The ACC Freshman of the Year worked his way into the No. 3 spot in Fox’s batting order and never looked back–finishing the season near the top of the team leaderboard in nearly every offensive category.
