Fresh off the first ever NCAA Championship appearance in program history, the UNC men’s tennis team will start the 2018 campaign ranked No. 3 in the preseason Oracle/ITA Top 25.

The Tar Heels checked in just behind No. 1 Wake Forest and No. 2 Ohio State, with No. 4 Georgia and No. 5 USC rounding out the top five.

Last year’s national champions–Virginia–represents the third ACC team in the poll, as the Cavaliers were slotted in at No. 12.

Other teams from the league in the top 25 include: No. 21 Florida State and No. 25 Duke.

UNC is led by sophomore William Blumberg, who is ranked No. 2 in the country as a singles player after reaching the NCAA Singles Final last season.

The Tar Heels are scheduled to begin their season at home on Jan. 18 with a pair of matches against North Carolina A&T and Campbell.
