Down by two runs entering the bottom of the 10th inning Saturday night at Boshamer Stadium, the 15th-ranked UNC baseball team responded with three runs of its own to knock off the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets by a score of 9-8.

Dallas Tessar’s sacrifice fly represented the game-winning run in the extra frame, but it was a play only made possible following a triple by Ben Casparius earlier in the inning that tied things up.

Prior to that, the Tar Heels (26-13, 14-6 ACC) needed a pinch-hit grand slam from Jackson Hesterlee in the bottom of the eighth to send the game to extra innings.

Georgia Tech (22-18) had built a 6-2 lead to that point, and appeared poised to steal the victory.

It represented UNC’s largest comeback victory of the season, and gave the Tar Heels their first series win over the Yellow Jackets in Chapel Hill since 2008.
