CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.– Tyler Engel’s first half goal was good enough to give No. 17 North Carolina a 1-0 victory at No. 11 Virginia Friday night.

UNC (7-3-5, 4-1-5 ACC) won its fourth-straight ACC match and also put an end to Virginia’s 11-match unbeaten streak.

The Tar Heels shut out the Cavaliers (8-4-4, 3-3-4 ACC) with some suffocating defense. The victory ties Carolina with Clemson for fourth in the ACC standings.

For the second-straight match, UNC scored early to gain momentum. The Tar Heels maintained an 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.

UNC returns home to host the final two regular season games of the season against Georgia State and N.C. State.
