Next year’s Carolina men’s basketball team added a missing piece to the puzzle.

High School sharpshooter Kenny Williams committed to play for Roy Williams on Saturday night.

The 6′ 3″ Guard from Chesterfield, Virginia, originally committed to Virginia Commonwealth University but reopened his recruitment after the Shaka Smart decided it was time to leave the Rams to take over as Head Coach of the Texas Longhorns.

Williams chose the Tar Heels over the Virginia Cavaliers.

Williams is rated as a four-star prospect by most recruiting outlets.

He will step into a loaded Tar Heels lineup that went to the Sweet Sixteen in last year’s NCAA Tournament. Outside shooting was the biggest weakness on that edition of UNC, and Williams adds a reliable option.

The commitment of Williams breaks a sting of recruits choosing other schools over Carolina.

Highly touted high school senior Brandon Ingram from Kinston chose to attend Duke over the Tar Heels, and is on the record saying that the ongoing NCAA investigation played a role in his decision.

While Ingram will go into Duke with much more hype, Williams may be just what the doctor ordered for the Tar Heels.
