Fresh off learning the news that their head coach, Anson Dorrance, will be inducted into the United Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame, seven UNC women’s soccer players were named to the All-ACC teams–which were released on Thursday.

Forward Alessia Russo–the Tar Heels’ only First Team All-ACC selection–was also named the league’s Co-Freshman of the Year along with Louisville’s Emina Ekic.

Russo, a native of England, scored six of her team-high eight goals against ACC competition–the most of any player in the conference.

UNC had three players selected to both the All-ACC Second Team and Third Team.

Second Team selections included midfielders Dorian Bailey and Joanna Boyles, as well as defender Julia Ashley.

Last year’s ACC Freshman of the Year, midfielder Bridgette Andrzejewski, headlines the Third Team selections, which also include a pair of freshmen–midfielder Emily Fox and defender Taylor Otto.

Only the conference regular season champion Duke, with eight, had more All-ACC selections than the Tar Heels.

The Tar Heels have compiled a 13-2-2 record in 2017, and are the No. 2 seed in the ACC Tournament.

UNC will face off against No. 3 seed NC State in the tournament semifinals on Saturday in Charleston. That match is set to begin at 8 p.m.
