The second annual “Brawl at the Hall” was a smashing success for the 24th-ranked UNC wrestling team, which capped off its regular season with a dominant 28-14 victory over the Duke Blue Devils at Memorial Hall.

Pins from Troy Heilmann (No. 8 at 149 pounds) and Chip Ness (No. 17 at 184 pounds) represented 12 of the 28 team points for the Tar Heels (9-10, 3-2 ACC)–who clinched their first winning record against conference competition since the 2008-09 season.

Seniors Ethan Ramos (No. 16 at 174 pounds) and Danny Chaid (No. 15 at 197 pounds) also picked up hard-fought decision victories for the Tar Heels to join Heilmann as winners in their final home dual.

In total, UNC won seven of the night’s nine individual matches after Duke took an early 6-0 lead due to a forfeit at 125 pounds.

The Blue Devils received a 4-0 decision victory at 157 pounds from No. 10 Mitch Finesilver over No. 15 Kennedy Monday, while the nation’s No. 3 heavyweight–Jacob Kasper–scored a 16-1 technical fall victory against UNC’s Andrew Gunning.
