Former Tar Heel great and New York Knicks point guard Raymond Felton was arrested early Tuesday on three firearm possession charges, according to reports.
Felton was arrested at 12:50 a.m., several hours after the Knicks lost to the visiting Dallas Mavericks in Madison Square Garden. He was being held on initial charges of criminal possession of a weapon in the second, third and fourth degrees, according to CNN.
Multiple news outlets report that Felton allegedly pointed a gun at his estranged wife, Ariane Raymondo-Felton, during a domestic dispute. She later turned the firearm into police. Felton then turned himself in for being in possession of a gun police said he wasn’t registered to have.
New York has some of the strictest gun possession laws in the country.
Felton helped lead UNC to an NCAA National Championship in 2005.
