Rain Shortens JMU Game No. 2, Doesn’t Dampen Tar Heel Spirits

CHAPEL HILL – The No. 1 UNC baseball team defeated James Madison for the second night in a row on Wednesday, this time with a 6-1 win in a game cut short due to inclement weather.
Freshman Landon Lassiter was first to put a run on the board as UNC took an early lead in the bottom of the first.
That lead wouldn’t last long as the Dukes were able to tie it up at one run apiece in the top of the third inning. But a big hit and smart base-running from Parks Jordan in the bottom of the fourth put the Tar Heels back on top of the Dukes, four to one.
And the scoring didn’t stop there for the Heels. Sophomore Michael Russell helped tack on two more in the fifth inning for Carolina to put the Heels on top of the Dukes, 6-1.
With the score still six to one in favor of UNC, and one out remaining in the bottom of the sixth inning, storms rolled in, and after about an hour of waiting, the game was eventually called giving Carolina the victory.
With the win, Carolina improves to 44-4 overall, still 19-3 in the ACC, while James Madison falls to 20-25 and remains 8-12 in the Colonial Conference.
The Tar Heels are back in action on Friday night when they face Georgia Tech for the first of a three game series on the road in Atlanta.
