FORT COLLINS, CO – Tournament officials announced the women’s fields and pairings for the 2013 Cancun Challenge Tournaments at the all-inclusive Aventura Palace Resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Eight women’s Division I college basketball teams will each play three games at the resort on November 28-30. The Cancun Challenge Riviera Tournament features Arizona State, Arkansas State, Illinois and North Carolina. The Cancun Challenge Mayan Tournament features Boston College, Iowa, UNC Wilmington, and USC.

The teams each play one game per day in a true classic format. The games are played in the Central Time Zone.

Carolina and Arizona State last met in 2007 as part of the State Farm Tip-off Classic in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels won that game 75-60 and are 4-0 all-time against the Sun Devils. UNC is also 4-0 against Illinois, with the last meeting coming in Honolulu in 2010. Carolina and Arkansas State have never played in women’s basketball.

The Cancun Challenge tournaments are unique events where all teams stay and play at the all-inclusive Aventura Palace Resort in Riviera Maya near Cancun, Mexico. The resort’s convention center ballroom is converted into an arena which provides fans a special close-up view of the games.
