The No. 7 Florida State Seminoles scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning Friday night at Boshamer Stadium to defeat the UNC baseball team 6-3 in the second leg of a doubleheader between the two teams.

UNC (14-9) took the series opener 16-8 earlier in the day, but couldn’t quite muster the offense needed to complete the comeback in the night’s second game.

Kyle Datres went 2-for-5 with a pair of RBIs to lead the Tar Heels, including a clutch RBI double that tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning.

A solo home run from Dallas Tessar in the fifth inning represented the only other offense UNC received in the game.

Florida State (18-4) erased a 2-0 deficit with three runs in the top of the seventh against the pitching combination of Austin Bergner and Josh Hiatt.

It appeared as if the Seminoles were poised to seal the deal after that, until Datres’ big hit in the ninth–which came on a 3-2 count with two outs.

Following a walk to Zack Gahagan, Brandon Riley eventually grounded into a fielders’ choice to force things into extra innings.

The comeback mojo didn’t last long, however, as Florida State shortstop Mike Salvatore jumped all over UNC reliever Joey Lancellotti for a two-run single in the top of the tenth before any outs had been recorded.

A sacrifice fly from Jackson Lueck then gave the game its final score, as the Tar Heels were retired in order in their half of the 10th.
