CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.–No. 6 North Carolina finally grabbed its first conference win of the season. Claiming a 2-1 victory at Boston College Saturday night from Newton Campus Field in Chestnut Hill, the Tar Heels managed to avoid overtime.

Tyler Engel netted the first goal for the Tar Heels and senior Josh Rice added a second to give Carolina a 2-0 lead that they never relinquished.

UNC, now 4-2-5 on the season and 1-1-5 in the ACC, was able to gain some much needed traction in the offense Saturday night.

Boston College dropped to 5-4-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the ACC. The Eagles attempted to rally late in the second half, but Carolina held on for the victory as BC was unable to push in the tying score.

Carolina keeper Brendan Moore made three saves to secure the victory. The Tar Heels will next host Syracuse Friday at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN3.
