CHAPEL HILL – The No. 25 UNCsoftball team earned its eighth-straight win Wednesday night in a shutout against Elon.

The Tar Heels scored all their runs early putting up three in the first and three in the third carrying the 6-0 lead the remainder of the non-conference contest.

Once again homeruns were the main source of scoring. Sophomore Amber Parrish tallied her fourth homer and batted two runs in, while senior Constance Orr hit her team-leading tenth to score three runs.

Junior Lori Spingola pitched six innings and threw 11 strikeouts while only giving up four hits. Junior Sara Buchholz came in to close in the seventh to complete the shutout.

With the win, Carolina improved to 32-13; Elon fell to 12-25.

That game concluded a ten-game home stand for the Tar Heels who hit the road this weekend for a three-game conference series against N.C. State in Raleigh. Game one of double-header Saturday begins at 1:00 p.m.
