The regular season ended with a thud for the UNC women’s basketball team on Sunday afternoon at Cameron Indoor Stadium, as the No. 20 Duke Blue Devils defeated the Tar Heels 70-54 to extend their losing streak to nine games.

Senior guard Jamie Cherry led UNC with a fantastic all-around stat line of 20 points, six rebounds and six assists, but it would not be enough to fend off Duke’s game-changing run in the third quarter.

The Tar Heels also received 12 points and 12 rebounds from freshman forward Janelle Bailey, the only other player on the team to score in double figures.

After trailing 31-29 at halftime, the Tar Heels (14-15, 4-12 ACC) allowed the Blue Devils (22-7, 11-5 ACC) to score the first 15 points of the second half and take full control of the proceedings.

The senior duo of Rebecca Greenwell and Lexie Brown simply proved too much for the UNC defense to stop.

Greenwell scored 15 of her game-high 31 points during the third quarter explosion, while Brown finished the day with 22 points and 11 assists.

On the defensive side of the ball, Duke held UNC’s leading scorer–junior guard Paris Kea–to just nine points and kept the Tar Heels to just a 31 percent shooting percentage as a team.

It was a revenge victory for the Blue Devils, who represent the last team to suffer a loss to the Tar Heels–an overtime game played back on Jan. 21 at Carmichael Arena.
