The growing list of Tar Heels on watch lists for individual awards ahead of the 2016 college football season includes kicker Nick Weiler.
The senior is on the watch list for the 2016 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission has announced.
Weiler’s teammates center Lucas Crowley and running back Elijah Hood have also been named to the preseason watch lists for various awards.
Weiler was a semifinalist for the award in 2015 when he set UNC’s all-time single-season scoring recording. Weiler made 87 percent of his kicks last season, second-best among FBS kickers who made at least 20 field goals.
Weiler set another UNC record with 67 extra points, helped out by an explosive Tar Heel offense.
The 25th Annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award winner will be announced at a banquet on December 5.
Weiler graduated in May, according to the university, and is now enrolled in the Master of Accounting program at UNC.
