The North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame announced a list of eight new members on Thursday–a group that includes longtime UNC baseball head coach Mike Fox.

A native of Asheville and a UNC graduate, Fox–who is still active as the team’s head coach–has led the Tar Heels to six College World Series appearances and 15 NCAA Tournaments during his 18 years at the helm in Chapel Hill.

He will be inducted alongside a list of inductees that includes: Glenn Bass, Dwight Durante, Chasity Melvin, Ben Sutton, Caulton Tudor, Steve Vacendak and Stephanie Wheeler.

“The achievements of this year’s class of inductees enrich North Carolina’s remarkable sports heritage, and the individuals have certainly earned the honor of joining the 328 men and women who have been previously enshrined,” said Fredrick Reese, president of the Hall. “This is our 54th class, and we look forward to celebrating this special time in our state’s sports history.”

Including the 15 years Fox spent as head coach at N.C. Wesleyan (1983-1998), he has posted a remarkable career record of 1,336-487-5.

Not only that, Baseball America chose Fox as its National Coach of the Year in 2008.

He will officially be enshrined into the N.C. Sports Hall of Fame on Friday, May 5 as part of the 54th annual induction banquet.

Ticket information for the banquet is available at ncsportshalloffame.org or by calling (919)-845-3455.
