Looking to earn its third ACC series sweep of the season on Sunday in Coral Gables, the UNC baseball team was unable to complete the job when mother nature intervened.

A torrential downpour shortened the game to just five and a half innings, and the Miami Hurricanes scored six runs in the home half of the fifth to steal a 7-5 victory.

Miami (13-18, 7-8 ACC) scored the first run of the day to take an early lead, but UNC (21-11, 10-5 ACC) responded with three runs in the third thanks to a pair of RBI doubles from Clemente Inclan and Brandon Martorano–who drove in two runs with his bases-clearing hit.

Brandon Riley then added a two-run single in the fifth inning to extend the Tar Heels’ lead to 5-1.

From there, however, things went south in a hurry.

The Hurricanes took advantage of shaky pitching from the UNC bullpen to avoid getting swept at home, starting with a bases-loaded triple from Michael Burns that nearly brought Miami all the way back in one swing.

A sacrifice fly from Isaac Quinones and a two-run double by Freddy Zamora completed the epic comeback, just before the skies opened up during the top of the sixth.

Although the Tar Heels technically cut the lead to 7-6, the game was called during the inning–forcing the score to go back to what it was at the last completed inning.
