WINSTON-SALEM– The No. 1 Tar Heel men’s soccer team finished in a 1-1 draw at No. 24 Wake Forest on Saturday night at Spry Stadium.

A regular-season record crowd of 4,587 people attended the showdown between two of the premier soccer programs in the nation.

North Carolina received a first-half goal by senior Josh Rice, and Wake Forest answered with a goal in the 89th minute to send the match past regulation. And that’s no surprise for Carolina. It was UNC’s sixth match that hasn’t finished in 90 minutes.

Goalkeeper Brendan Moore made five saves while Wake keeper Alec Ferrell had seven stops of his own.

UNC now sits at 3-1-4 on the season with all four of their ties coming in ACC play. The Tar Heels hosts Duke next Friday at 7 p.m., on ESPN3.
