The seventh-ranked UNC men’s soccer team extended its winning streak to five games on Tuesday night at Wakemed Soccer Park in Cary, defeating the George Washington Colonials by a score of 4-1.

Senior Alan Winn–who was recently named the National Player of the Week for his contributions–continued his outstanding form, accounting for two of UNC’s four goals.

Perhaps the most important player on Tuesday, however, was forward Zach Wright.

Wright tallied a career-high three assists on the night, and played a huge role in the Tar Heels opening up a 2-0 lead early in the proceedings.

He found David October with a solid pass at the top of the box in the 20th minute, which led to the game’s first goal. Just three minutes later, Wright found Winn with a perfect setup. The rest was history.

Winn then notched his second goal with only a minute until halftime, but George Washington responded with an incredible goal from by Koby Osei-Wusu just before the break–an absolute prayer of a shot taken from midfield.

The Tar Heels added some insurance in the second half–when Wright assisted on a goal by Jeremy Kelly–but George Washington was never able to put together a serious threat the rest of the way.

Up Next:

After using this game as a tune-up, UNC must now turn its attention to this Friday–when it travels to face No. 9 Virginia in a crucial ACC showdown. That match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
