The UNC men’s soccer team added a fresh face to its staff on Thursday, as head coach Carlos Somoano announced the arrival of Will Clayton as the Tar Heels’ new assistant coach.

Clayton–a Durham native–has spent the last four seasons as an assistant at the University of Central Florida. While in Orlando, he served as the Golden Knights’ recruiting coordinator in addition to his on-field duties.

While playing at Wake Forest, Clayton helped lead the Demon Deacons to three consecutive NCAA College Cup appearances from 2006-08–including a national title in 2007.

The Tar Heels are currently riding a streak of two straight trips to the College Cup, themselves.

Being from the area, I know how special this athletic department and men’s soccer program are,” Clayton said. “It is an honor to join Coach Somoano’s staff and I am excited to hit the ground running.”
