CHAPEL HILL – The North Carolina men’s soccer team slid into the top spot in the NSCAA/Continental Tire Top-25 poll on Tuesday after opening the season with a double-overtime victory over Monmouth.

UNC (2-0) also earned a dominating 4-0 win over No. 13 Coastal Carolina on Monday. The Heels were fourth in the preseason poll by the NSCAA.

Tyler Engel scored the game-winning goal in both contests, including one in the 103rd minute against the Hawks on Friday night.

Carolina is ranked No. 2 by both College Soccer News and Soccer America, while Top Drawer Soccer plugs the Tar Heels in at No. 4.

UNC will face No. 4 Notre Dame on Sunday at 12 p.m., on ESPNU. The Fighting Irish (1-0-1) defended its title at the adidas/IU Credit Union Classic in Bloomington, Ind., with a 2-1 victory over SMU on Sunday. Notre Dame and UCLA both finished 1-0-1, but the goal differential tiebreaker went to the Irish.

Sunday will be the first meeting between UNC and Notre Dame, and will also mark the inaugural ACC match for the Irish.
