UNC men’s basketball guard Marcus Paige has been named one of the four finalists for the 2016 Arthur Ashe Jr. Male and Female Athlete of the Year Award from Diverse Magazine in partnership with the NCAA Office of Inclusion.

Paige, a Media and Journalism and History double major, and University of Kentucky forward Alex Poythress shared the award at the men’s collegiate basketball level.

Paige and Poythress, who is a Marketing major at UK, are joined by Corey Brown and Paul Pitts III as the four finalists for the male athlete of the year award.

Brown is a soccer player majoring in Biochemistry at Queens University in Charlotte. Pitts plays football at San Diego State University while pursuing a Master’s degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences.

University of Tennessee Kinesiology major and basketball player Andraya Carter, Neuroscience major and softball player at Dominican University Alyssa Domico and Northwestern University Economics and International Studies double major and soccer player Nandi Mehta are the finalists for the female athlete of the year award.

To be included, students must complete in an intercollegiate sport, maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 and be active in their campus or in their communities, according to Diverse.

The winner of each award will be announced on April 7.
