Seven runs over a two-inning stretch late in the ballgame on Sunday were enough to propel ninth-ranked Louisville over North Carolina to take the series win.

UNC started the day looking for perhaps its biggest series win on the season after splitting the first two games against Louisville. Carolina jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings of play.

Two runs in the fourth inning gave Louisville a 3-2 lead, before the Cardinals stretched the lead to 7-4 after six innings. Three insurance runs in the seventh inning put the game in the bag for the Cardinals.

Louisville outfielder Corey Ray led the offensive effort with three hits and three runs batted in, while catcher Will Smith added three RIBs of his own with a three-run double in the sixth inning.

Zach Gahagan homered for the Tar Heels for the fifth time on the season.

UNC added two runs in the bottom of the ninth, but it was not enough for a comeback win.

Carolina fell to 30-17 on the season and 10-14 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Tar Heels will be back in action on Tuesday night hosting East Carolina University.
