After opening the 2017 season with eight consecutive victories, the UNC baseball finally ran into a road block.

The Tar Heels blew out Winthrop on Tuesday, but then dropped a mid-week game at home to then No. 22 St. John’s on Wednesday–and lost two out of three games against Long Beach State over the weekend.

As a result, head coach Mike Fox’s squad dropped five spots in the D1Baseball.com Top 25–falling from No. 8 to No. 13.

TCU held its place at No. 1 in the rankings, with Florida, Florida State, Oregon State and Louisville making up the rest of the top five.

UNC’s scheduled opponent this weekend–Virginia–rose up to No. 10 in the rankings, which gives the ACC three schools in the top 10.

Clemson (No. 14) and NC State (No. 20) represent the league’s fifth and sixth teams in the top 25–tied with the SEC for most in the country.

With all four of their games again taking place in Chapel Hill this week, the Tar Heels have a prime opportunity to make a move back up the poll.

A visit from VCU on Tuesday will give the team some time to prepare for the beginning of ACC play on Friday–when Virginia visits Boshamer Stadium for a three-game top 25 showdown.
