Just one day after being selected in the first round of the MLB Draft, UNC junior Logan Warmoth was named the winner of the Brooks Wallace Award–which is given annually to the nation’s top college shortstop.

Warmoth–who was selected 22nd overall by the Toronto Blue Jays–helped lead the Tar Heels this season to their first ACC Coastal Division championship since 2013 and the No. 2 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Six of his team-high 10 home runs came against ACC competition, while his .336 batting average, 49 RBIs and 18 stolen bases were among UNC’s leaders.

The Orlando native has also flashed an amazing glove throughout his time in Chapel Hill–where he was a starter for each of three seasons.

His high-level contributions earned him First Team All-American and First Team All-ACC honors.

Warmoth will now hope to follow in the footsteps of the Wallace Award’s recent winners.

Three of the last four players honored with the award are already on major league rosters.

That list includes: Trea Turner (NC State/Washington Nationals), Alex Bregman (LSU/Houston Astros) and Dansby Swanson (Vanderbilt/Atlanta Braves).
