UNC senior point guard Joel Berry was named to the Preseason All-ACC First Team, which was released on Thursday after a vote conducted by 69 media members at the league’s annual Operation Basketball season kickoff event in Charlotte.

Berry received 58 votes, trailing only Notre Dame’s Bonzie Colson (64) and Duke’s Grayson Allen (60).

The other two members of the All-ACC First Team were Duke freshman Marvin Bagley III (26 votes) and Georgia Tech forward Ben Lammers.

Colson was named the league’s Preseason Player of the Year, while Bagley was tabbed the Preseason Rookie of the Year.

Although he is expected to be the Tar Heels’ number one option this season, Berry will miss at least the next four weeks after breaking his hand while punching a door following a tough video game loss to teammate Theo Pinson.

One player who figures to see an increased role in Berry’s absence is freshman guard Jalek Felton, who finished tied for fifth in the Preseason Rookie of the Year voting.
