The second-ranked UNC women’s lacrosse team capped off a successful trip to the US Lacrosse Complex in Sparks, Maryland with its second win of the weekend on Sunday–taking out Canisius 16-8.

Not only was it the team’s second win in three days, it was also the 300th win of head coach Jenny Levy’s career.

She becomes just the third coach in NCAA women’s lacrosse history to reach that mark.

Senior attacker Molly Hendrick left no doubt that Levy would return to Chapel Hill with the milestone under her belt, as she tied a career-high with six goals and an assist in the game.

Sydney Holman tacked on four assists for the Tar Heels (5-1), while Carly Reed–who scored five times in Friday’s win over Albany–added two goals of her own.

After Canisius (3-3) scored in the opening minute, UNC reeled off the next eight goals and never once looked back.

Canisius received four goals from Erica Evans in the game, but didn’t have anywhere near enough talent as a team to mount a serious threat.

Up Next:

The Tar Heels will now return to Chapel Hill next week for the beginning of ACC play, as they’ll play host to the Virginia Cavaliers next Saturday at Fetzer Field.

Game Notes:

  • Navy’s Cindy Timchal (477) and Princeton’s Chris Sailer (375) are the only other head coaches in NCAA women’s lacrosse history to reach the 300-win mark.
