For the third time this season, UNC freshman forward Janelle Bailey was named the ACC Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week.
The league announced the selection Monday afternoon, with Bailey–a 6-foot-4-inch forward from Matthews, North Carolina–earning the nod after scoring 19 points and grabbing eight rebounds in UNC’s win over Washington on Sunday.
Bailey converted on 7 of her 8 shot attempts in the Tar Heels’ win, which was the 999th of head coach Sylvia Hatchell’s career.
She has been the dominant frontcourt presence during UNC’s current a seven-game win streak, the longest Hatchell’s squad has had since a nine-game streak during the 2014-15 campaign.
USA Basketball also recently named Bailey its Female Athlete of the Year for her performance in the U19 3-on-3 World Cup last summer.
Bailey and UNC will look to give Hatchell win number 1000 on Tuesday at 2 p.m., when they face Grambling State in Myrtle Beach.
