Despite playing from behind for much of the second half on Sunday afternoon, the UNC women’s basketball team received a clutch three-pointer from senior guard Jamie Cherry with 12 seconds remaining to pull off a 68-67 victory over the Pittsburgh Panthers at Carmichael Arena.

The Tar Heels (11-5, 1-2 ACC) trailed by as many as eight points in the fourth quarter, but Cherry’s heroics down the stretch helped head coach Sylvia Hatchell and company record their first ACC victory of the season–and snapped a three-game losing skid.

Cherry finished with a game-high 22 points, while knocking down five shots from three-point range–including two over the game’s final five minutes.

Freshman forward Janelle Bailey added 15 points for UNC, while junior guard Paris Kea chipped in 13 to give Hatchell three players in double figures.

Pittsburgh (8-8, 0-3 ACC) was led by 21 points from Jasmine Whitney.
