Coming off the program’s third ITA National Indoor Championship title since 2013, the UNC women’s tennis team now has a new title it can claim–No. 1 ranked team in America.
The Tar Heels took over the top spot in the newest ITA Division I Team Rankings, which were released on Wednesday.
Prior to this past weekend’s tournament, UNC entered the event ranked No. 5.
Pepperdine, which lost to the Tar Heels in Monday’s championship match, moved up to No. 2 from No. 6.
The rest of the top five includes: No. 3 Vanderbilt, No. 4 Duke and No. 5 Georgia.
UNC also defeated Duke in a semifinal match this past Sunday, and has a non-conference showdown with Vanderbilt coming up on Sunday, Feb. 25.
Now 10-0 to begin the 2018 campaign, the Tar Heels will face another stiff challenge this weekend–when they host No. 14 Michigan this Sunday at 11 a.m.
