CHAPEL HILL– Sylvia Hatchell, Carolina’s women’s basketball coach, will shortly be a Hall of Famer. On Sunday, Hatchell will be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.

Hatchell is the first Tar Heel woman to earn her place in the Hall. And she’s in good company, joining nine other Tar Heels in the Naismith Hall of Fame – including coaches Frank McGuire, Dean Smith and Larry Brown, player/coach Billy Cunningham and star players James Worthy, Robert McAdoo and Michael Jordan.

Hatchell says that when she got the call from the Hall of Fame, she thought it was just a dream she was having.

The enshrinement ceremony, which will be televised live by NBA TV, will start at 2 p.m., from the Springfield Symphony Hall.
