The New York Giants bolstered their linebacking corps Thursday with the addition of former Tar Heel Kareem Martin, who had previously spent the first four years of his career with the Arizona Cardinals.

Reports from ESPN’s Jordan Raanan have the deal worth three years and $21 million, with $7.5 million guaranteed.

A native of Roanoke Rapids taken by Arizona in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft (84th overall), Martin has played in 56 games while starting 14–including 10 starts last season when he racked up a career-high 18 solo tackles.

By making the move to New York, Martin will be reuniting with James Bettcher–his defensive coordinator for the last three years with the Cardinals.

Bettcher was hired by the Giants this offseason to take over the the same role, meaning Martin will have plenty of familiarity with the system he’s joining.

Martin also becomes the second linebacker to sign with New York this week, after the Giants previously acquired former Rams’ standout Alec Ogletree.
