The UNC football team added some much-needed experience behind center on Sunday, with the announcement that former LSU quarterback Brandon Harris will join the Tar Heels as a graduate transfer for the 2017 season.

After visiting Chapel Hill over the weekend, Harris announced his commitment on his Facebook page.

“I look forward to the opportunity to play for coach Fedora and UNC,” he wrote. “Thank you, to all of those who have kept me in your prayers and continue to do so.

“I have to say that I haven’t been this excited in a while and can’t do anything but thank God and my wonderful family for their continued support.”

With the departure of Mitch Trubisky–who opted to forego his senior season to take advantage of his first-round NFL Draft projections–Harris gives head coach Larry Fedora a signal-caller who, at the very least, has college experience in a big-time football conference.

There is no other quarterback on the UNC roster who has played in a single collegiate game.

Harris started all 12 games for LSU during the 2015 season, throwing for 2,158 yards and 13 touchdowns with just six interceptions.

Last year, he started just twice for the Tigers–playing in four games overall.
