Playing its second straight game at its temporary home away from home–Duke’s Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium–the seventh-ranked UNC field hockey team looked quite comfortable on Sunday.

The Tar Heels picked up their fourth win over a ranked opponent in 2017, as they shut out No. 13 James Madison by a score of 3-0.

Eva Van’t Hoog scored in the third minute of the game to give UNC (6-2) an early lead, which proved to be more than enough as the proceedings wore on.

Megan Duvernois and Catherine Hayden each added tallies in the first half for the Tar Heels, who outshot James Madison (5-2) by a margin of 22-9.

It was an exceptional performance from head coach Karen Shelton’s squad, coming just one day after an overtime win over No. 10 Boston College on Saturday.

“It was nice to see our team play fatigued, back-to-back against two ranked teams, and come away with two wins,” Shelton said afterwards. “I thought we were particularly sharp in the first half – we put pressure on them from the opening whistle and were able to score some goals.”
