CHAPEL HILL– Crystal Dunn’s first half goal was good enough for the third-seeded UNC women’s soccer team to beat sixth-seed Boston College 1-0 and advance to the semifinals of the 2013 ACC Women’s Soccer Tournament.
With the victory, Carolina improved to 17-3 on the season and 11-3 in the ACC while the Eagles dropped to 10-9-1 overall and 6-6-1 in conference play.
The Tar Heels dominated possession the majority of the contest in Chapel Hill and outshot Boston College 21-8 on Sunday. Both goalkeepers recorded career highs in saves to keep their teams in the match.
All four top seeds advanced in Sunday’s ACC quarterfinal play to set up a pair of heavyweight match-ups next weekend.
Ranked fourth nationally, the Tar Heels will be taking on the third-ranked Florida State Seminoles Friday at 8 p.m. at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary. Carolina will attempt to avenge their 1-0 loss to the Seminoles in Tallahassee earlier this season. UNC is 59-2-4 overall in ACC tournament play.
If you can’t make it over to Cary, the match will be televised nationally on ESPN3.
