The UNC men’s and women’s lacrosse teams split a pair of top-10 matchups over the weekend.

The No. 10 men’s team went on a 5-0 scoring run over the last 8:16 of the game against eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins to pull off a 15-11 victory over the Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon.

Chris Cloutier paced the Tar Heels, scoring four goals. Steve Pontrello and Michael Tagliaferri each added three.

Luke Goldstock also scored one goal to extend his scoring streak to 21 games, good for the fifth-longest active streak in the country.

The Tar Heels improved to 3-1 during a tough stretch of the schedule that has Carolina matching up with defending national champion Denver next Saturday.

Meanwhile, the fourth-ranked North Carolina Tar Heel women’s lacrosse team was locked in a tight matchup with No. 1 Maryland in a rematch of the 2015 NCAA championship game.

Maryland got off to a hot start Saturday afternoon at Fetzer Field leading 4-1 at the half. The Tar Heels equaled the Terrapins first-half effort after the break, tying the score at 5-5 with more than 20 minutes to play. The game was tied at 7-7 with less than four minutes remaining when Maryland scored the game-winning goal.

UNC will take the field again on Sunday, March 6, against Albany.
