Sunday’s series finale at Boshamer Stadium saw the East Carolina Pirates hold the sixth-ranked UNC baseball team to just three hits in what ultimately turned into a 12-0 blowout win for the visitors.

ECU (6-1) clinched the series victory with the win, having won Friday in Greenville before dropping Saturday’s game at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Both starting pitchers tossed three consecutive innings without anyone recording a hit, but the floodgates were opened in the top of the fourth inning when Rodney Hutchinson allowed a bases-clearing triple by ECU catcher Jake Washer.

The Pirates would then go on to score at least once in four of the final five innings–including a huge five-run eighth frame that put to bed any chances of a miracle comeback.

Michael Busch, Dallas Tessar and Jackson Hesterlee each recorded one hit for the Tar Heels (3-5). Hesterlee’s double was the only one of the three to go for extra bases.
