The 21st-ranked UNC baseball team picked up its seventh victory in eight tries Tuesday night, with a come-from-behind 4-1 victory over the Appalachian State Mountaineers at Boshamer Stadium.

UNC (22-11) trailed 1-0 heading into the fifth inning, but scored three runs in the home half of the frame to wrestle away control of the game from the upset-minded visitors.

Kyle Datres hit an RBI double to put the Tar Heels ahead 2-1 following a run-scoring groundout by Brandon Martorano. It was one of two hits on the night for Datres, who joined sophomore Ashton McGee in combining for four of the team’s six total hits.

Another RBI groundout from Brandon Riley accounted for the third run in the fifth inning, while Clemente Inclan drove in the game’s final run in the seventh inning with a chopper that just got under the glove of the second baseman.

Although Appalachian State (8-22) recorded seven hits compared to just six for the Tar Heels, the pitching trio of Rodney Hutchison, Brett Daniels and Josh Hiatt did more than enough to get the job done for head coach Mike Fox and Company.

Daniels and Hiatt combined to throw 4 2/3 scoreless innings to close out the game and hand their team yet another victory.
