UNC Wrestling Coach C.D. Mock has been relieved of his duties, Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham announced Friday.

Mock was thrust into the public eye in the aftermath of a sexual assault accusation against his son Corey at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2014.

Mock publicly criticized UT-Chattanooga following the expulsion of his son after the university judicial system found him guilty of sexual assault.

A website was launched by the Mock family about the “hookup” culture that exists on college campuses today instead of dating, describing it as a “new danger” for young men on college campuses.

Mock was the first ever NCAA individual wrestling champion for Carolina during his 1982 senior season for the Tar Heels.

He served as the head coach for 12 seasons leading the Tar Heels to a 108-105-3 record. The Tar Heels won back-to-back ACC titles in 2005 and 2006 but have not finished higher than fourth at the Conference Championships since 2008.
