CHAPEL HILL– The Carolina men’s basketball team will hope to get their season underway in similar fashion to the UNC women’s team earlier in the week.

The eleventh-ranked UNC women’s team had six players score in double figures in a 111-50 exhibition win over Carson-Newman Wednesday evening in Carmichael Arena.

Friday night, it’s the men’s turn at 7:30 p.m. in the SmithCenter.

Head coach Roy Williams says he is eager to get back to playing big this year by improving their rebounding and getting to the free throw line more often.

“Last year reinforced the fact that I want a big-time rebounding team that can defend the rim and has great balance. Last year, we didn’t have very good balance. We’ve had many years when we made more free throws than our opponents shot. I want to get back to that type of play,” Coach Williams says.

Friday’s exhibition against UNC-Pembroke will serve as the only warm-up contest for the Tar Heels before regular season action gets underway next Friday against Oakland.
