CHAPEL HILL– Fetzer Field is set for a Halloween showdown between the No. 4 Tar Heels and the surging Duke Blue Devils in the regular season finale for Carolina.

The 15-3 UNC squad will be looking to build off the momentum of their thrilling overtime victory at Wake Forest last Sunday. But they will face in-form Duke at 8-6-4 overall and one of the hottest teams in the ACC, having won three straight matches.

Coach Dorrance says the ACC is a “dogfight right now” with the victory over Wake Forest being vital to his team securing home field in the ACC tournament and hopes of ultimately earning a top seed in the NCAA tournament.

“With that victory over Wake, two wonderful things happened. We now get to host the ACC tournament first round. The second thing is we’re sort of on that RPI bubble. What every elite team wants to be is top four in the RPI, because that will give you an excellent chance to be a top four seed or a number one seed,” Coach Dorrance says.

As for the here and now, Coach Dorrance says he knows his Tar Heels will have their hands full Thursday evening against Duke.

“The Duke team has an incredible attack. We’ve recruited all of those girls. I mean, honestly in recruiting the last four or five years, Duke has won five out of the six head-to-head battles. They have an excellent team. We know that. We respect them. So I think this is going to be a heck of a game,” Coach Dorrance says.
