The North Carolina baseball team, 3-3 on the season, will face 0-7 Appalachian State Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Chapel Hill.

Off the heels of their thrilling ninth-inning rally against Xavier Sunday, Carolina will be looking to get the bats swinging hot when they take the field at Boshamer Stadium.

Bobby Hundley, of UNC Athletics, says this young group of Tar Heels has a strong future ahead of them as the season progresses, and it all starts with the pitching.

“Eight freshmen played. It’s going to take some time for those guys to adjust to the college game, but the pitching has been absolutely outstanding here in the early going. I think there’s a bright future ahead for the Tar Heels,” Hundley says.

Although the Mountaineers remain winless this year, they almost pulled off a big upset victory over No. 6 N.C. State Sunday, falling 3-1 after a Wolfpack eighth inning that produced two runs and broke the tie.

UNC catcher Adrian Chacon led the Tar Heels with two hits in the series clinching 3-2 win against Xavier, but Carolina will be hoping to get more contributions from their young lineup in this midweek matchup.
