UNC forward Brice Johnson has been named the Naismith Trophy National Player of the Week for his performances against Duke and Miami last week for the Tar Heels.

The organization announced the award on Tuesday.

Johnson accumulated double-doubles number 15 and 16 on the season last week.

Johnson was the catalyst for the Tar Heel offense in the heartbreaking one point loss to Duke last Wednesday when the senior scored 29 points and grabbed 19 rebounds. Johnson followed that performance up with 16 points and 15 rebounds on Saturday in UNC’s throttling of Miami.

While Johnson was honored nationally for his performances, Georgia Tech’s Marcus Georges-Hunt was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week.

Johnson and the Tar Heels will be back in action on Wednesday night in Raleigh against NC State.
