Friday afternoon’s game at Boston College saw the UNC women’s basketball team take a third straight loss, as Taylor Ortlepp scored a career-high 23 points to lead the Eagles past the Tar Heels 77-64.

The win snapped what had been a three-game losing streak for Boston College (6-9, 1-0 ACC), which drained a season-high 11 three-pointers in the game–including five by Ortlepp.

UNC (10-5, 0-2 ACC) was led by 18 points and eight rebounds from freshman forward Janelle Bailey.

Leading scorer Paris Kea chipped in 16 points for the Tar Heels, while fellow guard Jamie Cherry hit 10 of 11 free throws in order to finish with 12 points of her own.

As a team, however, UNC shot just 36 percent. After building a six-point lead at the end of the first quarter, the Tar Heels allowed Boston College to fight back for a 32-28 halftime lead.

It was in the second half, though, that things really started to turn sour for the visitors.

Boston College reeled off a 9-0 run midway through the third quarter, and ultimately extended their lead to 15 points during the fourth–and final–period.

The Tar Heels were never able to mount a challenge down the stretch, extending their losing streak to the longest its been all season.
