UNC senior offensive tackle Bentley Spain was among the candidates on the annual Outland Trophy Watch List, which was released on Thursday.

The award–which has recognized the top interior lineman in college football for the last 71 years–lists 81 candidates on its initial watch list.

Players from any spot on the offensive line, as well as defensive tackles, are up for consideration.

Spain is a 6-foot-6-inch, 300-pound tackle from Charlotte, who is entering his third season as a starter for head coach Larry Fedora.

He is expected to step into much more of a leadership role this season, with the Tar Heels losing three starters from last year’s offensive line.

The winner of the Outland Trophy will be announced live on Dec. 7 during ESPN’s College Football Awards Show.
