Make it four straight victories for the 20th-ranked UNC baseball team, which used a 10-run fourth inning on Sunday afternoon to take down the Liberty Flames by a score of 13-8.

The win completed a three-game weekend sweep for the Tar Heels (7-5) at Boshamer Stadium where they outscored their opponents 36-15. This comes after they previously knocked off High Point earlier in the week 10-0.

UNC received solo home runs from Brandon Riley and Brandon Martorano in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively, to put things away for good–but it was the 10-run fourth that ultimately made the difference.

In that frame, sophomore Ashton McGee had a single, a double and three RBIs while Martorano drove in another run with a double that nearly went over the wall.

Ike Freeman added an RBI of his own, and bases-loaded walks brought home Riley and catcher Cody Roberts. Riley would later score on a passed ball to complete the scoring in the inning, giving the Tar Heels an 11-3 lead after Liberty (6-5) had gone ahead 3-1 in the first third of the game.

The Flames responded with three runs in the fifth inning, and then loaded the bases in the sixth before UNC reliever Josh Hiatt came in to stop the bleeding.

Riley and Martorano’s home runs followed shortly after and gave the Tar Heel bullpen some extra insurance.

In total, seven different pitchers took the mound for UNC with Taylor Sugg ultimately earning his first victory of the season.

After limping to a 3-5 start to the season–causing them to fall 14 spots in the rankings–this weekend saw the Tar Heel team many envisioned heading into the year.

If that keeps up, there should be plenty more wins to come.
