It was announced Monday that for the second time this season, UNC junior Ashley Hoffman has been named the ACC Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week.

She is a co-winner of the award this week, sharing it with Syracuse’s Borg van der Velde.

Hoffman and the Tar Heels are coming off perhaps their best win of the season, as they shut out No. 3 Virginia on the road by a score of 4-0.

An opportunity on a penalty corner also allowed Hoffman to score what would prove to be the game-winning goal against Virginia just before halftime.

On top of that, Hoffman and the UNC defense completely silenced the Cavaliers–the nation’s highest scoring team entering the day.

The Tar Heels have currently won eight games in a row, and will go for a ninth on Saturday, Oct. 14 against Louisville.
