Legendary UNC women’s soccer head coach Anson Dorrance will be inducted into the United Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2018, the association announced Wednesday.

Dorrance joins former United States men’s national team head coach Bruce Arena as part of the two-man class.

Both coaches will offically be inducted at a formal ceremony on Friday, Jan. 19 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in downtown Philadelphia.

After founding the women’s soccer program at UNC–his alma mater–back in 1979, Dorrance has gone on to lead the Tar Heels to an astounding 822 wins and 22 national championships. He also spent time guiding the UNC men’s soccer team to 172 wins across a 12-year period from 1977-1988.

At one point, from 1986-1988, Dorrance was simultaneously the head coach of UNC men’s and women’s soccer–as well as the U.S. Women’s National Team.

Those numbers are enough to speak for themselves, as they are the most by any coach in college soccer history.

His program also remains one of the best in the country, as this season’s group of Tar Heels are ranked fourth in the country and have compiled a 13-2-2 record.
