UNC junior Marie McCool was recognized Tuesday by ACC Commissioner John Swofford as the conference’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women’s lacrosse, while also headlining the All-ACC Academic Team.

A 3.0 grade point average–both over a collegiate career and the most recent semester–is the minimum requirement for the All-ACC Academic Team. Athletic achievements, however, are also considered.

The ACC Scholar Athlete of the Year award is reserved only for the top junior or senior student-athlete in each sport.

It’s just the latest honor for the 2017 ACC Midfielder of the Year, who scored 50 goals this past season and was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy–the sport’s version of the Heisman Trophy.

McCool has also been a First Team All-ACC selection in each of the past two seasons, and is one of just two active college players on the U.S. National Team.
