The ACC recognized UNC junior Ashley Hoffman as its Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, following her outstanding contributions to the Tar Heels’ two wins over ranked opponents this past weekend.

Despite playing the center back position–which focuses primarily on defense–Hoffman scored the game-winning goal in overtime for UNC against No. 10 Boston College on Saturday.

Hoffman also currently leads UNC (6-2) with five goals this season.

The Pennsylvania native continued her strong defensive play on Sunday, as the Tar Heels picked up a 3-0 shutout win over No. 13 James Madison.

In addition to Hoffman, the ACC also recognized Wake Forest’s Nicole Pluta as its Offensive Player of the Week.

The Tar Heels will return to action at its temporary home away from home–Duke’s Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium–on Tuesday night against Davidson.

That game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
